The Progressive Center and the CEC are involved in Terracycle’s recycling program, which generates a little cash for the Progressive Center and provides an easy way to do our part for recycling. TerraCycle runs free national collection programs that pay participating non-profits and schools. Thriough exclusive partnerships with major CPG companies such as Kraft Foods, Frito Lay (Pepsi), Stonyfield Farm, Mars Wrigley and many more, TerraCycle creates free collection programs that pay schools and non-profits nationwide to collect used packaging such as drink pouches, energy bar wrappers, yogurt cups, cookie wrappers, chip bags and more! The collected materials are upcycled into affordable, high quality products ranging from tote bags and purses to shower curtains and kites. In addition, TerraCycle works with these partners to find innovative uses for all of their waste streams and, by making products from these various waste streams, TerraCycle prevents 1000’s of tons of waste from going to landfills.
The following are being collected:
- all brands of cookie wrappers
- all brands of candy wrappers
- all brands of drink pouches (such as Capri Sun)
- Frito lay chip bags large and small
- yogurt cups- 6oz and 32 oz #5
- Ritz and Wheat Thins bags
- Kashi boxes and wrappers
- Starbucks coffee bags.
There are bins in the back room at the Progressive Center, 413 Waco Street to collect the Terracycle materials. We receive 2 cents for each item recycled, which can add up if we all participate. Please bring the recycle materials clean and place them in the big plastics bins in the room beyond the kitchen.
